Why should children join

There are many reasons to join Dakota Martial Arts. Two of the most popular reasons are, we don't believe in tying students and their parents to contracts, and we have a well diversified and highly skilled teaching staff. Our instructors have trained a wide variety of students, with successes in many different areas, from who train for National and State titles to the students who just want to have better balance and coordination.

As one parent put it, "Martial Arts is the greatest individual team sport, there's no sitting on the bench, and yet you have the support of all of your classmates." Through training to get better and better every week the students have a great sense of accomplishment. Dakota classes are so well run that the children are continually kept engaged.

Training

Our instructors have over seventy-five years combined of training in the martial arts. Since first opening our doors in 1995 we have trained a wide variety of students, with success in many areas; from the students who train for competition on the State and National level to the students who just want to have better focus, balance, coordination, get fit, and take advantage of all the attributes that go hand in hand with martial arts training.

Philosophy

"Our goal is to train for personal excellence"

We want our students to train to the best of their abilities to become the best martial artist they can be.

Dakota Martial Arts instructors have a strong foundation in tae kwon do and karate. Over the years we have broadened our horizons to include other styles od marial arts that we feel are interesting ad extremely beneficial to our training.

Dakota Marial Arts has been a front-runner in open-minded progressive thinking. Since opening our doors in 1995 we have welcomed martial artists from other styles to come in and share their different techniques with us. As a result of our open door policy. we have trained with many dedicated and wonderful black belts from other martial arts styles and schools including but not limited to; kenpo, jiu jitsu, kung fu, judo, ao denku jiu jitsu, tae kwon do and sport karate.

Our curriculum has incorporated many of the others styles to create a board spectrum of techniques. As a result our school covers the four ranges of combat that are used for self-defense: kicking range, hand striking range, manipulations and ground fighting. At Dakota Martial Arts we feel all ranges are necessary for a school to teach, but it is not necessary for all students to develop proficiency at all of the styles. Each student will have a range that they are most comfortable with and techniques that will be more natural for them. Because everyone is built differently, has different abilities, and has their own unique way of moving, no one traditional style of martial arts will work for all. we train our students to expound on what they do best. We encourage our students to observe classes in other schools, be a quest in another class and go to open tournaments. Whatever they can do their horizon will make them the best martial artist they can be.
